George Floyd's Legacy

George Floyd's Legacy.jpg

Many people have heard the story of Esther in the Bible. Esther is chosen as queen and goes before the king and stops the radically unjust killing of all the Jews.

The character who is often overlooked in this story is Queen Vashti. The woman whom Esther replaced. Although her story is mentioned only briefly, she was the one who paved the way for Esther to come. If you read her story, you will see that all the queen did to lose her royal position was stand up for herself, have a voice, and set a very reasonable boundary. I see this as a wild injustice.

What happened to her after this? What position in society does a queen take after being dethroned? I imagine what followed was equally as unjust.

I bring this up because Just like queen Vashti experienced in the book of Esther, sometimes an injustice has to occur to prevent a further and more substantial injustice.

My heart hopes that George Floyd's legacy will be similar to queen Vashti. That his loss, and all it represents, will not go in vain. I sincerely hope this injustice will radically change the future of this country from this point forward.

(Although being dethroned isn't comparable to death, there still flows a theme of injustice.)

What we know is true of God is that he IS a God of justice. His heart burns with fury.

Before the foundation of this world, the God of the universe knew George Floyd's name. He has his name written on the palm of his hand, along with the names of every single human who has passed due to racial injustice.

He created George with purpose. And no matter what any human being does, the dignity assigned to him by Christ cannot be taken away. The blood of Jesus was shed for us all, not just some of us.

We could argue all day long, whether this is a spiritual, social, or political issue. But really, it encompasses all three.

And while we could solely focus on the big picture change that undeniably needs to happen, we, as individuals, only have power over ourselves.

When you start to assign others their God-given identity and treat them with dignity, love, and respect, it'll catch like wildfire

I don't know what it's like to walk in your shoes. But I can have ears to listen, a desire to understand, and a heart filled with empathy.

I hope this injustice compels you to wholeheartedly love your brothers and sisters that are different than you. To do this can have a significant, lasting ripple effect in their life, which will ultimately have a ripple effect on the people in their lives and so on.

Love is truly a force not to be reckoned with.
